Awkwafina
American actor and musician Awkwafina debuted with sly songs that dealt with sexuality and racial identities with a boldly comedic perspective before increasing her presence in Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her first musical experience. She played the trumpet. Her classical, jazz and hip-hop studies began when she was in her teens. While in the school, she focused on the field of journalism as well as women's studies. She also studied Mandarin for a while in Beijing. It wasn't until she graduated that her focus shift to music. In 2012, My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet hit and was included on her debut album Yellow Ranger. The album also featured viral hits like the body-positive Queef and the winking tour of her hometown NYC BitcheUSD. The track that was published specifically linked to the album Awkwafinas NYC, her guide to travel in 2015. She decided to pursue acting careers after having completed her two previous ventures as a musician and author. In addition to early series that included Girl Code and Tawk - she appeared in movies Neighbors 2 Storks and Bad Rap. In 2018 she was able to land her first major role in a number of high-profile movies like Dude Ocean's 8, and Crazy Rich Asians. The EP came out in June.
